Lokomotiv Plovdiv VS Tottenham Hotspur – Post Match Review

Sep 18, 2020 | Rikespurs

WE TOOK OUR RISKS BY TAKING DAVINSON OFF AND PLAYING WITH ONLY ONE DEFENDER... BUT AT THAT MOMENT I BELIEVED THE PLAYERS HAD THE QUALITY AND INTENSITY.

Jose Mourinho

Tottenham luckily and deservedly managed to scrap through next qualifying round of europa league after being a goal down with 20 minutes remaining on the clock.

Goals :

Lokomotiv: Minchev 70’.
Spurs : Kane(p) 80’, Ndombele85’

Spurs dominated the game with ball for most parts of the match but it was Plovdiv who scored through Georgi Minchev from a corner then lost their head and gave away a tricky game to spurs after receiving 2 red cards on quick succesion.

Spurs started with a very strong lineup with new fullback Doherty starting in consecutive games and made 4 changes from the team that lost against Everton. Spurs started the game brightly and had few half chances for Son, Bergwijn and Davies in the first half. It was Lo Celso who was pulling the strings in the middle with his drive, energy and willingness to move the ball forward key for spurs against a well drilled low-block defending side Plovdiv.

Except few miss passes in middle, the away side retained possession the most but could not penetrate and lacked finishing touches in final third. To increase the tempo and find a way to score Mourinho withdrew Sissoko and brought Ndombele at an hour mark who started to show real urgency and attempted through balls to attackers, but it was the Bulgarian side who surprisingly upset Tottenham from a corner with just 20minutes left .

10 minutes later in the opposite box Almieda handed the ball on goal line after a Davies header and was sent off. Then after a minute Karagaren got a second yellow who allegedly was digging foot hole in penalty spot. Kane converted the penalty and after an attractive build up started by Ndombele he scored the winner with just 4 minutes left on the clock.

It was a difficult match than more would have expected and a real wake up call for Spurs, with imminent arrival of Reguilón, Davies had a hard time against a minnow club and struggling both end of the pitch, Nonetheless an important away win against a tricky side but we could still see lack of creativity and urgency to score a goal in the team . Two mega deals we only dreamt of are imminent and hopefully will kickstart a good form as well

Come on you spurs
