"IN A WORLD FULL OF UNITEDS, CITYS AND ROVERS, THERE IS ONLY ONE HOTSPUR. WE ARE TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR."
Tottenham Hotspur Football Club
Nepal Spurs is the only Official Supporters’ Club of Tottenham Hotspur in Nepal. The idea of establishing a Supporters’ Club began in the early 2010s. With supporters of top 4 clubs rising in big numbers, to find a fellow supporters was a tough ask.
All thanks to the emergence of social media which helped to unite few around the capital city Kathmandu. We created a facebook group to find fellow Spurs supporters and slowly the number increased from one to another.
We had our first ever match screening in 2010-11 season along with Supporters of Manchester United in a small cafe named Shaili in Thapathali, Kathmandu. The match went United’s way with a controversial second goal which made us leave the United-dominated venue a bit early.
After that, a few of us gathered for a futsal match which then continued as a weekend program for a few seasons after that. As the number reached 25, we tried to get ourselves registered as an Official Supporters Club, which was subsequently approved.
Since then, the results on the pitch from Tottenham Hotspur has resulted in a rise in the number of supporters in the country. A lot of young boys are seen wearing Tottenham kits which were non-existent in the early days. The number has reached a few hundreds now and with the club’s best days yet to come, the number will continue to rise.
Being a Spurs fan was not easy in back days. Surrounded by the fans of big clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea who were winning one thing or other in each season, each Spurs fan here were alone and striving for our glory days. Spurs kits were nowhere to be found in the market and no live games on TV when game time coincides with big clubs matches. The struggles were big.
Being a Spurs fan now is also not easy , in a sense – that we have to watch the games with heart in our mouth as Spurs like to win the matches in the hard way. There has always been ups and downs in the journey of Tottenham Hotspur FC each season, but SPURS GO MARCHING ON.
