Grinding out the Results and Maccabi Haifa Preview

"It's true. Their last match was in Rostov and after that they had time for everything - they had time to rest, to analyse"

Jose Mourinho

The way we started the game and the way we ended, it was exactly what we had been lacking in the past. We have been in similar situation several times but this time the outcome of the match and mentality of the team was different from the past, bouncing back and grinding out the results that’s what the winners do.

The manager who is used to winning the silverware is capable to inject that mentality and grind out the results and Jose is the proven one. He is in the process of doing same at Tottenham and we can see the reflection of it clearly.

Starting the game without proper striker we struggled to make impact during the first half as Steven Bergwin and Erik Lamela were playing in that role.

Sergio Reguilon had debut to remember, he was everywhere on the pitch of that left flank committing himself forward and dealing well with defensive duties apart from that blind sliding challenge which led to Chelsea goal. As the game progressed Reguilon became better and better, he nearly scored in the second half but was denied by another debutant Mendy.

At last it was his cross from which Lamela equalised, it was his first game but in one game he showed us what we were actually missing from our full backs. We are going to see more attacking dislpay and increasing number of assists from the left flank of the pitch once he settles down.

Not only his game but also his passion which he showed during the celebration will surely make him the fans favourite in the coming days as Spurs faithful always seek passion and dedication from their players along with their display.

Try try until you die”, the quote was proved yesterday by Erik Lamela, he is the one in the team known for passionate fight during the game and he proved that right. Playing as striker Lamela kept on fighting with passion throughout the game and his fight saw its worth as he scored the goal to level the game. Its his spirit and passion what Jose likes the most and has trust in him, once again Lamela proved to be trust worthy with his match winning performance.

Every players on the pitch were motivated and they displayed great fightback in the second half and hold their nerves during the shootout. There are many positive points to take from the game such as: Tanguy Ndombele improving match by match, Aurier had an game to remember, Eric Dier with his man of the match display, Japhet Tanganga back from injury, Sissoko with his own game and many more.

Jose changed nine players from the game against Newcastle and even after that the squad looked in proper shape and a backup striker in coming days will add more quality and strength to make this side better in coming days.

Now let’s move on from that fantastic win to our upcoming game.

Europa League Qualifier
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

We will host Maccabi Haifa from Isrel in the important match of Europa League qualifier with the winner of the game reaching to the group stage.

We have reached the playoff stage by beating Lokomotiv Plovdiv and Shkendija in the previous two games and are certainly favourites to win this tie.

Mourinho has already stated that this match is very important to his team and it is sure that he will be fielding his best players in the starting line up. As we saw that against the Chelsea Jose had given rest to many players who make his starting line up frequently, we can predict that they are the one to make the starting lineup against Haifa.

The winners will advance into the Group Stage and will get a pay of reported £15 million, and that sum will be valuable for the team in present context.

Jose Mourinho on Opponent:
Their last match was in Rostov and after that they had time for everything – they had time to rest, to analyse.

For me and my staff it was about last night finishing the game and meeting the analysts and analysing the maximum we can about Maccabi which I think we have a very good idea about them.

Of course we analyse them, not just the Europa League matches but in a couple of domestic competitions. We know the players individually, the systems they used. Sometimes with a back four, sometimes with a back five.

We know what we can expect from them, so yes in this moment my players are going to arrive for lunch, for training and it’s the moment for them to learn the maximum we can teach them about Maccabi.

COYS!!!
