Hugo Lloris signed for the club in 2012 from French club Lyon. He made his Tottenham Hotspur debut against Lazio on 20, September 2012 in a Europa League match, his Premier League debut came later on the 7th of October 2012 against Aston Villa. He kept a clean sheet in his Tottenham debut as well as Premier League debut.
In his debut season Lloris was nominated for the Premier League player of the month for December, throughout the season he made 27 Premier League appearances and registered 9 clean sheets.
In July 2014 with the arrival of new manager Mauricio Pochettino, Lloris signed a five-year contract keeping him in the club till 2019. Again in December 2016, he signed another contract extension until 2022.
Now entering the final year of his contract, it looks like there will be no more contract extension between him and the club, and he will depart once the contract expires in 2022.
Lloris was named captain of the club In August 2015 after Younès Kaboul left the club.
Lloris has not missed many games for the club due to noticeable injuries, but in 2019 against Brighton he suffered a horrific injury that kept him out for months. He dislocated his elbow while landing and he needed surgery to fix his elbow.
Arriving as a young boy with huge potential, Lloris established himself as a fan favorite as well as a club legend in these 9 years of time at the club.
Lloris is not just a captain, he is the face of the club, a respected figure in the dressing room, and safe hands between the sticks. He is a silent character, but an influential one. We don’t see him being aggressive often, as he calmly communicates with his team.
There are no countings of the time that Lloris has saved the club with his world-class goalkeeping. His reflexes and his acrobatics saves are always of top drawers, and he is difficult to beat in one versus one situation.
Everything has two sides and Lloris is no different, we have witnessed his world-class goalkeeping and his serious errors too. One moment he demonstrates top-class save and next concedes due to his own silly errors, Most of his errors come through his poor distribution and decision-making when playing from the back.
In his 300 Premier League appearances, he has made 19 errors leading to the goal.
Saves and errors are part of the game, but in overall is one of the best shot-stoppers of the game. His presence in goal is always massive confidence for the team and we are grateful that he plays for us. He is one of the best but underrated goalkeepers as his qualities are not talked about often.
With contract extension stalled whatever the consequences will be at the end of the season, we will always be thankful towards Hugo for his service and loyalty towards Tottenham Hotspur.
The name Hugo Lloris is already written in the legends book of the club that too in front page and the name will be a role model for the youngsters and all players in Tottenham Hotspur as Hugo has always presented with a top level of professionalism on and off the pitch.
