2014: Beginning of Pochettino’s Era

This was the time period when club was facing a lot of problems on and off the field, best players were leaving the club, managers were hired and sacked on regular basis, the performance of the club was worst, fans has lost their faith and Tottenham was crumbling into pieces.

This was the situation when Tottenham appointed the man from Southampton as their head coach. 28th may 2014- the date when Pochettino was appointed as the manager of Tottenham Hotspur.

As soon as he was appointed as manager he started to implement his philosophy in the club. The players who didn’t worked hard and didn’t prove themselves were sold, he only kept the players who proved themselves in front of the managers.

He kept his faith in the youngsters and connected everyone in the club with each other.

In his first full season in charge, the club finished fifth and reached the League Cup final.

Another season started, he had already implemented his philosophy in the club, the club was united again, and players were connected with each other. The players like Harry Kane, Dele and Dier had become star as he trusted them and let them to show their ability.

The team was young and energetic, they played an attacking football under the manager and the result kept coming in their favor. Tottenham was challenging for the title before they slip to third position at the last moments.

The fans started to believe again and they start to dream again under Mauricio Pochettino and his boys.

Next season Tottenham finished second, third the next and fourth Last season.

Before Pochettino, Tottenham had finished in the top four just twice in their 22 Premier League campaigns. Under him, they reached the top four in four consecutive seasons, and challenged for the title twice.

Not only top four finish in the premier league but also under Pochettino Tottenham made it to the Champions League final last season.

These stats of Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham are really amazing. Though he was not able to grab any silverware he has left as an example because he did it all in the circumstances other could only think of.

There were no signings for 18 months, there was no own stadium as club was expanding White Hart Lane, injury to the main players after world cup in all these circumstances he wrote the History.

He turned average Europa League team to one the best team in Europe, he helped the team to finish above their arch rivals, he turned academy players into world class and most of all he made Tottenham dream again.

Where it went wrong

As every beginning has its end same thing happened to Pochettino era at Tottenham but it came early and in little harsh way.

It went wrong from the game week 27 in the Premier League (18/19)  as the team lost to Burnley and from then the team never recovered entire season.

Not only last season but the poor run of form is still haunting the Spurs and they are currently in the 14th position of the League table.

The poor run of form in the League and unexpected results in the domestic cup added fuel in the sacking of Pochettino.

He turned down offers from Europe’s top clubs over the years to remain in north London as he believed in the Spurs project but he was never presented with the enough resources and backing. His dream and his project regarding to Tottenham has seen its untimely end.

Though there were ups and downs in the chapter of Pochettino era at Tottenham but in overall it was one of the successful era in the history of the club.

He was loved by all in the club “Mauricio Pochettino, he’s magic you know” rang out in stadiums home, away and abroad as the supporters let him know exactly what they thought. Even as some doubted him in the final months, those inside the stadium still sang his name loud and proud.

As the supporters sang he was really a magic who turned the Tottenham to one of the competitive force not only in England but in whole Europe.
