Our 2019/20 third kit pays tribute to the Club’s heritage by bringing back the famous light blue shade synonymous with iconic players who helped carve the way for the Club’s future success.
First seen in one of our first shirts all the way back in 1885 – a shirt replicated for our 125 anniversary match in 2007 – light blue has featured regularly as a third kit since the 1980s. It has been worn by the likes of Hoddle, Ardiles, Perryman, Roberts, Allen, Sheringham, Keane, Defoe, King, van der Vaart and Bale. We wore light blue in the first leg of our 1984 UEFA Cup Final triumph.
The new kit, which we will debut later this month when our European campaign begins, is light blue from head to toe and features numerous nods to ‘90s jersey culture.
“It’s one of my favourite jerseys for sure, the light blue pops and the retro aesthetic goes down well. I can’t wait to wear it to the European games especially this season,” said lifelong Spurs fan and prominent UK rap star AJ Tracey, featured in the campaign imagery.
“Everyone will see the retro influence, it’s a tribute to the jersey culture of the 90s,” said striker and England captain Harry Kane. “When you see the light blue you think of those players who paved the way, and I hope this year we can wear it with pride to go all the way.”
“Tottenham Hotspur have forged a reputation as a fearless and attacking side, so parallels to the style of those players of the past seem especially relevant right now,” said Pete Hoppins, Nike Football Apparel Senior Design Director. “Spurs and light blue is one of those combinations that just looks and feels right, and hopefully the supporters will really embrace it this season.”
The jersey features a ‘Spurs’ graphic running across it thanks to a matte/shine jacquard, while the club crest benefits from an elevated trim and the ‘90s vibe is topped off by a Nike ‘Futura’ logo.
The shirt is framed by a dark blue trim on the sleeves, and also on a classic ’90s button-down collar. The same dark blue details the shorts and crowns the otherwise light blue socks.
Our 2019/20 third kit is available via our online shop from 8am on Wednesday 4 September.
